Obstacles
Lenexa’s police and municipal court had outgrown their old building. Equipment sat staged across the city. Before design began, we validated the program to right-size every space for officers, staff, victims, and the public. It all had to feel welcoming, not intimidating.
Solutions
We placed the new justice center in the heart of Lenexa. With the contribution of our contractor, JE Dunn, the Lenexa Police and court now share one central home. Officers respond faster, with all their equipment in one place.
Transparency shaped the design. Open, thoughtful spaces and a public meeting room signal that the building belongs to the community. Everyone who walks in should feel respected and at ease.
We designed dedicated spaces for sensitive needs. Victims meet detectives in a private room, and co-responders support mental health outreach. The result earned a Gold Award for station design and AIA Kansas City recognition.
